This is another post about reintroducing Jesus. Today, I want to introduce Jesus as a refresher. 

Because He reinvigorates the weary. 

Recovery is a fight, and just like with other fights, you can get weary. 

Feelings of weariness can arise when you focus on how long you have to go. 

Discouragement can arise if you find yourself in the middle of mental suffering. 

You can feel disheartened by other life challenges next to your recovery.

A biblical figure who knows what weariness feels like is Daniel. 

‘When this vision came to me, I, Daniel, had been in mourning for three whole weeks. 3 All that time I had eaten no rich food. No meat or wine crossed my lips, and I used no fragrant lotions until those three weeks had passed.’  – Daniel 10:2 

A little bit later, Daniel adds to this description: 

‘… My strength left me, my face grew deathly pale, and I felt very weak.’ – Daniel 10:8 

And a few verses later again: 

‘… I am filled with anguish because of the vision I have seen, my lord, and I am very weak. 17 How can someone like me, your servant, talk to you, my lord? My strength is gone, and I can hardly breathe.’ –  Daniel 10:16-17

And Daniel gets his reply: 

‘¹⁸ Then the one who looked like a man touched me again, and I felt my strength returning. ¹⁹ “Don’t be afraid,” he said, “for you are very precious to God. Peace! Be encouraged! Be strong!” As he spoke these words to me, I suddenly felt stronger and said to him, “Please speak to me, my lord, for you have strengthened me.’ – Daniel 10:18-19

These verses not only illustrate Daniel’s weariness, but also show how Daniel expresses himself to the Lord. Take Daniel as an example when you are feeling weary. 

Express your feelings to the Lord. 

See how the Lord responds to Daniel’s expression. Daniel is strengthened by a touch from the Lord (whether direct or indirect) and His word. This means that the Lord came closer to Daniel, or in other words, the intimacy between Daniel and the Lord was increased. 

The Lord will reinvigorate you through increased intimacy with Him and His word.
